The traditional method of using a tape measure & bra size chart to find the correct size can be difficult.
Bra size charts currently used in the industry were created back in the 1950’ – women’s bodies have changed a great deal since then.
To find the perfect fit, the best process is to try the bra on, then find the perfect size & fit using the following step by step guide:
What size bra do you currently wear?
If you are not sure of what size band you are, start with one size larger than your CC clothing size. For example, if you wear a size 18/M, start with a band size of 20/L.
How does the band sit?
The perfect fitting bra should start on the 3rd or 4th hook and eye position. The purpose of having more than one level of hooks is to allow the back of the bra to be tightened, as the bra stretches from natural wash & wear. This will extend the life of the bra. If you are wearing a new bra on the smallest hook, you may need a smaller size band.
The band should sit flat against your back, horizontally to the waist. Try raising your hands above your head, the bra should not rise up. If it does, you might need a smaller band!
How do the shoulder straps feel?
The straps of your bra should be adjusted to a length that allows the back band of the bra to sit in a straight line, parallel to your waist. Your straps should sit comfortably without digging in or slipping off. You should be able to fit your index finger underneath the shoulder strap.
Checking your cup size
When wearing your bra, the breasts should sit fully inside of the bra cup at the bottom and the side. The side of the underwire should not sit directly on the breast tissue. If the bra does have underwire, it should sit comfortably and you shouldn't be able to feel the wire at all. If you can, you may need to change your cup size.
The final check!
Check the final fit in the mirror. The centre frame (cradle) should sit flat against the chest and be comfortable. Your underwire shouldn't cut in anywhere and more importantly, you should be feeling bold, confident and glam!
